Welcome to Germany! (Days 1&2)

I am in Germany!!

On May 5th at about 9:30 am we officially arrived in Germany. It has been a long travel with a flight from Pittsburgh to Chicago, a five hour layover, and then an 9 hour plane ride to Germany. From there we hopped an a bus to Augsburg. While it was a great travel experience, it has been exhausting.

Upon arriving to Augsburg, we immediately went on a city tour and then we took a tour of the Frugger Apartment settlement. It is a great sight, where a one bedroom apartment costs only 88 cents a year….. that’s right A YEAR. It is for those that are unable to work or have a hard time getting a job. It is a great site for helping those to get “back on their feet”.

Later the same day, we went to a classic Bavarian restaurant and met the German students we are working with for the next 2 weeks. It was such a fun experience, although it was a bit difficult based off my exhaustion of not sleeping for 30 hours. However, we had a great dinner where I tried authentic pork schnitzel with potato salad. It was delicious, although very different from anything I have in the U.S. We had some great conversations and traded information and stories about our times at our respective universities.

Moving on to my second day, it was a long and exhausting one. We started the day by traveling to the University of Augsburg where we met with our groups and had to do a presentation on our company, mine is Hoerbiger. They specialize in making different mechanics for the automotive, technology, and more industries. After we did our presentations we grabbed lunch in the university cafeteria… which was good. If you thought that a different country would have better university food, trust you are not missing out. After that, we were given a tour by a couple of the German exchange students that will be coming to Pittsburgh in August. They were super nice and I had so much fun going on the walk and just sightseeing the city. Later that night we all met up again and went to La Dragone, an Italian restaurant. I got Gnocchi with steak tips and a mushroom tomato sauce. It was Delicious and I will definitely be craving it when I get back to Pittsburgh. After dinner, I was exhausted so I went back and fell asleep… stay tuned for tomorrow, its a busy day!
