We started off the day trying Bagels and Bagels for breakfast, which was super good before heading to our first lecture of the day. Our first lecture was by Dra. Flora Ledesma from Media. She broke down each the public, private, and social security sector ( obras socials) by telling us who they serve, how they are paid for, and the percent of population that rely on each sector. I learned that ASE nacional contributes to obras socials where it offers a wide range of medical coverage of its members through its network of provides. It holds the top executives and is lots of money but lots of pay too. Medife is a national prepaid medicine company serving over 300,000 associates. It offers a diverse range of health services. Its clients are independent volunteers and hierarchal personnel of companies. Medife offers different health plans such as bronze, silver, gold, etc, depending on the patients needs. Telemedicine is also available 24/7 which offers advice, prescriptions, referrals, and remote monitoring. It is also efficient as it allows 2-3 patients to bee seen an hour. We had lunch at IES and then visited the ICBA Cardiovascular Institute. The ICBA is a private institution specialized in Cardiovascular Medicine with 166 Nurses. The vision is to work to make patients with cardiovascular affections live more and better. They value patient experiences education, quality, innovation, and teamwork. It was beneficial to see this specialized, private hospital with innovative technology as a basis for comparison to USA. I liked how we were able to see a specialized hospital as the others we have seen were general hospitals. We were also educated by Dr. Mariano Benzador on the mission of this Institute and how it is executed through their work. Most clients are union and most patients are from Osde or Swiss Medical. After our visit to the Cardiovascular Institute, we toured the Malba Museum, which was mostly modern art. I enjoyed the pieces of art and learning more about Frida Kahlo. We ended the night at an Italian restaurant, my favorite so far. Tomorrow we are headed to Universidad de la Matanza and Hospital Paroissien along with a Graffiti Tour!
