Welcome back! Today we visited the InHolland University of Applied Sciences in Delft. We took a train to Delft and arrived at 10 am and met our student guides. First we had two presentations with faculty members who work in the aeronautical engineering department at the university. We learned about what InHolland Delft’s aeronautical engineering department is about, what the curriculum looks like, and a brief presentation on the basics of the technicalities of aeronautical engineering.

After that, we took a brief tour of the campus. First we saw the R&D labs where the faculty and students are working on a satellite that they want to launch by 2027. It was really cool to see how much they trusted the students with the project.
Then they took us to the building where the second years work on their projects and saw what they’re currently working on. The space itself is very impressive, and it was cool how the seats in the lecture space were actually old airplane seats. We saw the second years group project to create a model plane that is capable of putting out fires, as well as an electric vehicle some students are working on.

After that, we got to do some hands on work. They had prepared a competition for us where we split up into groups of four and tried to create the best plane we could out of foam board. We had washers and paper clips to balance the wait. We had 45 minutes to create the plane, and then we were judged based on how straight and far the plane could fly. Our team got fourth out of sixth, but it doesn’t matter because we all had a good time.

At this point it was around 3 pm and we said goodbye to our university tour guides. Although it wasn’t originally in the plan for the day, the Bursics were kind enough to take us out for ice cream and a boat ride. We had “freak shakes” (they were freaky) and sang happy birthday to one of the girls on the trip whose birthday was today. Then we went on a lovely canal cruise and learned some facts about Delft. Tomorrow we visit Delta Works, and I’m super excited for that. See you then!
