Business as Usual

Similar to yesterday, we headed out for two company visits. The first one was Fredit Co. and the second was the Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon. Fredit Co. was a unique company visit, as their company focuses on making probiotic supplement drinks of sorts. We actually have had them in our hotel – at breakfast, they have these small yogurt like drinks and that is from Fredit Co. At the company we saw some of the manufacturing and processing of these containers and how they cultivate the probiotics. It is a pretty complicated process with an interesting result, and it was very cool to see how the company incorporates smart systems into their operations. A common trend that I have seen with most of the sites we have visited over different companies is that a lot of their assembly lines or manufacturing processes are all automated to some degree. For Hyundai the assembly line for the car parts were practically fully automatic and while the plant wasn’t running today, it was clear that Fredit Co. had a similar build. We even got a very nice tote bag with some souvenirs and samples of their product too which was awesome.

After a short lunch we headed to the Samsung Innovation Museum. This tour was really cool, as we were given a tour of their facilities and an overview of the history of Samsung and electricity in general. I am not usually big into history and that sort of thing, but this tour was definitely an exception. I have always been fascinated with electricity and smart systems, as well as bluetooth and how those things work. This tour 100% aligned with my interests and I got to see some amazing things. We were given an overview of how electricity was discovered and then harnessed, as well as the process of evolving it. From TVs to washing machines and phones, it was a really awesome experience.

With a lot of free time to end the day a few of us decided to go to a baseball game, and I am about to head out soon for that. Most of the group is going to the Lotte Tower but 3 of us including me are going to the game. It’ll be a fun night and I am ready for the next day! Tomorrow is Buddha’s birthday which is a special holiday in Korea, so it will be great to see the cultural atmosphere around Seoul.
