Day 10: Capital City… SAN JOSE!

WOW! Today we visited and explored the capital city of San Jose. This was such a cool and beautiful city. I loved how many garden and green areas there were. So pretty! We also went into many historical sites and museums. It was so interesting to see a new type of culture here. Enjoy some cool pictures!

Also, we took public transportation today! We took a train in, and a bus out. I loved the train. It was fast and efficient. There is no traffic on a train!

The fact that San Jose is built on the site of the first coffee plantation isn’t just a coincidence—it’s by design. This city grew around the coffee and banana trade, much like Pittsburgh evolved around the steel industry.

One thing that’s interesting is the absence of street names and addresses, which could pose challenges for mail and identification. However, despite this, Ticos manage to make things work efficiently. They rely on landmarks and descriptions to navigate and locate buildings. While this system seems to function well, incorporating addresses could streamline things further, especially considering the organized grid layout of the city. Tomorrow, we’ll do a full 180 and explore waterfalls! See you then!
