Hyundai and TK Elevators

We departed the hotel at 8:30. The first company visited was Hyundai’s Asan Plant. The plant produces the Sonata, Grandeur, and IonIQ6. It prides itself on being a high-tech facility that promotes efficiency.

We toured the plant but could not take pictures. The factory consists of nine different departments connected by an assembly line. The company is very automated, especially the welding department. The welding department is 100% automated. Even the defect checks are done by automation, as they look over parts not seen by the human eye. If a defect occurs, the car is put aside for inspection and repair. Due to the automation, they get a single car done in about 50 seconds. After it is built, the cars get test-driven. The most interesting part is if a machine breaks down, the system automatically detects the problem and alerts an engineer.

After the Asan visit, we headed to our next company visit. This company was TK Elevators. The tour started with a quick presentation and a tour of their facilities. TK makes many different kinds of elevators, even ones that go horizontal. One of their facilities is a 40-story building where they test their product. The building was cool, and I liked seeing the elevator in action. It was faster than most elevators that I have ever been in. After this, we had a short safety demonstration. They had safety training machines. One of the machines dropped people in a foam pit, and the other dropped people 10 cm in the air. I did not do either of these, as my leg hurt from the fall yesterday. After safety, we were allowed to tour the facility. I was surprised to find an employee recreation area at their company. The other visits did not seem to have them. They had a golf simulator, ping pong tables, basketball courts, and a gym.

After TK, we went back to the hotel. When we arrived, my group decided that the night would be spent working on our presentation and eating dumplings.
