Love is in the Air

Today, we went to Hospital Paroissien, which is a public hospital. It is a tertiary-level hospital with 300 beds. There were two floors for hospitalization and outpatient care. The lower floor was the emergency department and ICU; however, they are both under construction. At the hospital, I spoke with a nursing student who is studying at the University of Matanza. I discovered some distinct differences between her education and my own. For example, there are english requirements to become a nurse. Hence, many nurses can’t graduate due to their english proficiency at times. Also, in order to attend a public university, there is an entrance exam. However, public education is free. The private universities have no exams and only require payment to attend.

After the hospital, we visited the campus of the University of Matanza. The campus includes many buildings including a library, theater, law, medical, and more. In the medical building, there are simulation labs like Pitt, where the students are instructed through a speaker. In terms of education, they offer three degrees. The first cycle is three years and 30 subjects to receive an associates degree. The second cycle is two additional years with 19 subjects to receive a bachelors degree. They also offer a Master’s degree in public health or administration.

Fortunately, I was selected to be interviewed by the school about my experience traveling abroad. It was nerve racking because the camera was in my face; however, I love talking about my experiences, especially in spanish. Another student was also interviewed and I acted as the translator for the student which was cool! After, we went to a Grafiti/Street Art tour in Palermo! With a mural, we all created our own stories for the street art. My group chose a little cartoon character with stitches. We named him Pablo and he is a vampire Frankenstein that caused the zombie apocalypse. The faces that surrounded Pablo were screaming from this zombie apocalypse. Also, there were small minions around him who spread this zombie disease!
