GAP

1. Today we were able to learn about the GAP Vassilopoulos Group here in Nicosia. This was a lot different in my opinion then the other business we visited, since did they not only talk about just their company, but the supply chain as well, and how to be successful in it. Listening to Dr. Vassilopoulos talk about this really made me think how I could be successful in my future in business. He taught me many things to focus on, and important concepts to look out for in the market. Some key points I took from his presentation for example is how if one is to focus mainly on efficiency way of trade of a company will fail. I never thought that, since I always thought that efficiency is what a company would be most focused on succeeding with. But hearing him explain all the other purposes a company must serve, and comparing them to an iceburg; only a small amount is seen to the eye but so much is done under the surface, really helped broaden my perspective. Overall, I was estatic to learn about the supply chain from an experienced businessman, and I will be sure to take this information with me in my future.

2. The GAP company also offers many services throughout not just Cyprus, but the world. In my opinion, the company seems to run like a middle man, doing much of the unseen work. This means they seem to take goods from producers, and take them to retailers. Such as one of their servers, UPS. UPS is a prime example as a company who doesn’t have any purpose besides delivering. But, GAP also offers much more. They offer shipping insurance, and airline services to their customers. Fun fact is that they actually handled our luggage in Larnaca when we first landed!!! They have expanded services and companies to many different areas such as Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and more with their financial service, Western Union.
