Vietnam Day 10: Boating through the Mekong Delta

Wow, today was really amazing. By far this was the best day. We started the day off with a long bus ride to the marina, then hopped on a boat to an island. There, we walked around and got to try some local fruits and coconut! The fruit was super fresh and delicious. I had some super juicy mango, pineapple, watermelon, and guava. Then we got to travel through the island on small boats. I nearly knocked everyone out of the boat, multiply times, but it was super interesting and fun. We spent some much time on boats today that I still feel like I’m on a boat. I think my favorite part of the day was the fruit. After another 100+ degree day, the fruit was extremely refreshing.

Something extremely interesting to me were the local shops. As Vietnam becomes a more and more globalized country, tourism becomes more popular. I definitely noticed this today, as I saw some of the most tourists here today compared to the rest of the trip. Vietnam seems to be a very popular destination for Australians, since I noticed so many over the past few days. Due to this increase in tourism, a lot of small shops start popping up everywhere. On the walk to lunch we passed around 5 or 6 different shops selling little souvenirs or food stands. I find it very intriguing that the locals are more welcoming to foreigners, and are willing to share their culture with them.
