Farewell Cyprus- Last Day

Sadly, today was our last day in Cyprus. We had the afternoon free, but in the morning we had 2 lectures. Our first lecture was on data science. We learned about how important data analytics in many industries including supply chain. Data science has 4 main parts: descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive. Descriptive is what happened, diagnostic is why something happened, predictive is what might happen, and prescriptive is recommendations for actions. The level of difficulty is the same as the order I listed before, and so prescriptive is the most valuable step. Data mining is the ability to take data and find common patterns, trends, numbers, events, etc. Algorithmic modeling is an abstraction of a real-world process where we attempt to understand and represent reality through a particular lens. It is better to keep it simple and use a model as a function. The other techniques are clustering and classification.

Our next lecture was focused on blockchain and cryptocurrency. The University of Nicosia is one of the best schools in the world, if not the best, on these topics, so this was an amazing experience to have. In today’s world every society is data based, and each data base has an administrator. There is a shift to centralize data which means that there are less data bases but each one has more concentrated power. In blockchains, the data base has no admin. The best uses for this technology are for art and digital cash.

After the lectures, we had our free time. A group of the others and I went out to lunch first. We went to a place the only had opened two weeks ago but it was delicious. I got a chicken wrap and french fries. We walked around after that and window shopped. I didn’t get anything more because it might not have fit into my suitcase. We walked back to the hotel and I took a nap until the dinner. The dinner was an amazing and it was sad to be having the last meal with all my friends that I have meet here. I’ll miss you Cyprus! <3
