After a very mellow day yesterday, I am very excited for the change in tune today. We are going to the Audi car museum and factory tour!
I have recently purchased a new Audi A3 and I love it, so when I initially heard about this trip, I was so excited to learn about where and how the car I drive was made. I started with the Audi museum where I got to look at tons of classic Audi cars and even saw futuristic looking concept vehicles. Throughout the museum, they had tons of free postcards with cool pictures and historical facts about the company. I made sure to grab at least one of each to take home. After the museum, we had some time to look through the gift shop, where I grabbed a hat, mug, and a die-cast car to take home for a friend. Then we headed over for a quick bite to eat at the company cafe, and it was pretty good!
Now for the truly exciting part, the factory tour!
Entering the showroom, we got to see some beautiful cars, including the RS5 in the exact color I dream of owning someday. After looking at the show cars, we headed in. We were given the headphone setup, connecting us directly with the guide, which is my new favorite way of getting a tour. We headed in and were immediately greeted by the view of “flying cars”. I got to walk directly under one, which was so cool because I got to see all the parts we usually don’t. As they were moving the finished cars around, I actually got to see my car in the exact spec I own, which was absolutely wild!
While on tour, we saw vending machines that sold beer, and asked how that was allowed. The guide actually said, that the employees are allowed to drink on the job, as long as they do not get drunk. If they got drunk and failed at their job, they would be immediately fired. However, the idea of consuming alcohol while working is something completely foreign to American culture. I also found that it was a bit ironic that in a car factory, they are allowed to drink.
Overall, I have to say that I think this may have been my favorite day so far!
