We Didn’t Run Out of Museums Yet

Would it really be one of our last days without a trip to the museum? Today, it was super relaxed and easy going. We got to sleep in, had a nice lunch at IES, and hopped on the van to leave around 1:30. Our first museum was Museo de los immigrates. Here, we learned a lot about how immigration has affected Argentina. I did not know much about this other than there are a lot of people from all over the world living here. We have a huge European population, like the Italians and Irish. From the museum, I learned that a huge population came from Spain in the late 19th century. Closer to the present day, a lot of people from neighboring countries in South America like to come to Argentina, as well as people from Asia, like the Chinese. Like most countries, people migrated to Argentina for work. Some were also refugees. Sometimes it was entire families, but sometimes it was just the father who was making money for their family back at their homeland. Of course, years ago, a lot of people came on ships, which is very similar to the USA. Like the USA, the boats were split up between economic classes of passengers. If you had a lot of money, you had a nice, spacious living area. If you were considered poor, you were in a bunk bed in a room of several others. Argentina is way less strict than the USA in terms of immigration. The US had a flood of immigrants from Europe, like Germany, Italy, and Ireland. Most were refugees, labor workers, coming to see family, but a lot were undocumented, and still are. Due to an increase in undocumented immigrants, the USA seems to be much more strict on who can enter the country and for what reason. Argentina has more open policies and focuses on human rights, while the USA is restrictive with border control. After visiting this museum, we headed to Museo etnografico. This one was more interesting in my opinion because it was hands on and we had the opportunity to walk around and explore ourselves. It is always fun to be able to touch the artifacts! Museums where you can touch things or be interactive always keeps me super interested. Later that night, we had our fancy alumni dinner with a few doctors that Grant knows. Talking to them was super interesting because of how much knowledge and experience they have compared to us nursing and business students. See you for the last post tomorrow. 🙁
