PLUS3 Introduction: Jack Robertson

Hello!

My name is Jack Robertson, and I’m a first-year Mechanical Engineering student at the Swanson School of Engineering. I’m originally from Easton, Pennsylvania, which is located on the border between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. On campus, I’m involved in several organizations, including Engineers Without Borders and Theta Tau.

Music has always played a big role in my life, and one of my favorite hobbies is playing instruments. I’ve been playing the piano since I was five, and over the years, I’ve also picked up percussion instruments such as the drum kit and xylophone. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to travel abroad with my high school’s jazz band to Flensburg, Germany, where we performed for the local community.

This summer, I’m participating in PLUS3 Spain!

I chose this program because its focus on healthcare aligns closely with my future career interests. When I first entered the University of Pittsburgh, I was aiming to become a bioengineer. Although I’m currently pursuing mechanical engineering, I’m still deeply fascinated by the ways engineering solutions can make a significant impact in the medical field. Exploring these solutions in Spain—where the healthcare system is quite different from the U.S.—is an invaluable opportunity to understand how people’s needs are addressed globally. I’m really excited to learn about and explore Bilbao, and I can’t wait to see what this trip has in store!
