Hello! I am Nicolas Bove. I am from South Park Pennsylvania, just half an hour south of Pittsburgh. I am a rising sophomore mechanical engineering student and am pursuing a certificate in sustainability. At Pitt, I am involved in several student organizations. I participate in food recoveries with Food Recovery Heroes, play for Pitt’s club ultimate frisbee team, and am a leader at Cornerstone, Pitt’s Christian Coalition for Outreach organization. I am also a very passionate hiker, enjoy playing the guitar/bass, and love going to concerts. Professionally, I want to use my mechanical engineering degree and focus in sustainability to improve the way we handle energy, water, and other essential resources.
I am eager to travel to Seoul, South Korea to learn more about smart systems and the ways they implement technology into their lives. In one of my classes this year, Foundations of Engineering and Design, we had several projects utilizing microcontrollers, sensors, and coding to complete a task. For example, we designed small robots to navigate an obstacle course. On a larger scale, my design project team incorporated many smart system technologies when making a package delivery robot for the spring design expo. It was in this class that I really became interested in the applications of smart systems, and I am beyond eager to see how they are utilized to their fullest in Seoul. I am also exited to explore the rich culture that South Korea has to offer, and I cannot wait to immerse myself in its history, food, and customs. I look forward to getting to know everyone even better as we embark on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
