Introduction: Summer Mallon

Hi, my name is Summer Mallon and I am from Brick, New Jersey! I am currently a freshman studying nursing at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. I chose Pitt for nursing because of its endless clinical opportunities at UPMC, as well as its high ranking among other nursing programs in the U.S. My end goal is to one day work as a Nurse Practitioner in Pediatrics or Labor and Delivery, although I’m open to learning about other specialities during my time at Pitt. I am also involved with the Pitt Nursing Student Association, which has allowed me to make new connections with fellow nursing students, helping me learn more about my future career!

This summer I will be traveling to Bilbao, Spain for the PittPlus3 program. I chose this program because I am very interested in learning about other cultures and their experiences in the healthcare system. As a nurse, you have the opportunity to meet many different people, and I want to be able to understand them to give them the best possible care. Personally, I am very excited to explore Spain! I’ve never been to Europe so I am thrilled about the memories I’ll create while traveling. I hope that through this trip, I’ll gain more knowledge about the healthcare systems in different countries, while also getting a greater understanding of cultures around the world. I could not be more excited for this trip to begin!
