Symon Bounces to Bilbao!

Hello! I am Symon Seyfert, a freshman industrial engineering student here at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering and David C. Frederick Honors College. I am from Wyomissing, PA, which is on the other side of the state from Pittsburgh. I have loved math and science since I was a kid, which ultimately led me to picking engineering as my major. During my studies here, I plan to obtain a minor in economics and a data analytics certificate. Here on campus now, I am involved in API (Accessible Prosthetics Initiative), both intramural volleyball and soccer, as well as a job under campus recreation. Some of my hobbies include lifting weights, watching movies, and collecting records.

I am thrilled to be going to Spain for my Plus3 Program. I learned about the culture and language of Spain for five years throughout my academic career, and being able to visit the place I have learned about for so long will be a surreal experience. Visiting Spain will also be my first time leaving the country, which is also an incredibly exciting moment too. I love gaining new experiences, as they lead to new perspectives on life that can have life-altering effects. Professionally, I cannot wait to get insider views on hospitals and medical companies. Industrial engineers are heavily needed in the healthcare field, and being able to see the inner workings of the different processes that occur daily will put me ahead with my work after college. As long as I end up helping people as an engineer, I will be happy. I do not know if I will end up in the healthcare field after college, but I hope my trip to Spain helps me decide! I also cannot wait to be able to meet new people professionally and expand my network globally.
