My first impression of Heredia is that the city is full of life. Walking through the Central Plaza, I was immediately struck by the vibrant energy that fills the streets. People gather in the square to talk, relax, and enjoy the day, and there’s a strong sense of community in the way locals interact. I’ve found the people of Heredia to be incredibly friendly and welcoming—even when language is a barrier. Despite my limited Spanish, many have shown a great deal of patience, which has made me feel more comfortable while navigating unfamiliar areas.
At the same time, I’ve also experienced moments of feeling lost and even helpless. It’s a strange contrast to how I’ve felt in other places I’ve traveled, where I usually feel more confident. But this has helped me see the city in a different way and truly appreciate the culture and lifestyle. Being so immersed in the culture has also given me a deeper appreciation for a new way of seeing the world. Instead of just observing from the outside, I’ve begun to understand daily life from within.
I also really admire how Heredia has preserved its sense of history and cultural identity. The architecture, from the colonial-style houses to the small corner shops and colorful markets, tells a story of a city that values its history. Even the grid-like layout of the streets fit together, like pieces of a puzzle. There’s a balance between tradition and everyday life that gives Heredia a distinct character.
