Buenos Aires Day 2

Today we had the opportunity to visit the Universidad Austral in Pilar. After about an hour long bus ride, we were welcomed by members of the faculty. They met us with breakfast and gave us an introductory presentation about university and hospital within the university. The atmosphere was very professional and friendly, and it was interesting to hear about the university’s specific programs and unique possibilities.

The hospital is considered one of the most advanced in the private sector in Argentina. We were told that there is a relatively small population of students pursuing nursing degrees, with graduating classes averaging only around 20 students. This low number of new nurses entering the workforce contributes to a noticeable shortage in the healthcare system.

This makes it so that with lower staff it affects the efficiency of healthcare systems. It puts extra pressure on existing staff as well.

This visit provided me alot of good insight on the private sector of healthcare in Argentina, especially within this university. It was very cool to first hand see it all in person as well.
