Day 1 in Bilbao

Today started at 6:30am with breakfast , we got about 6 hours of sleep which wasn’t exactly ideal after traveling for a day and a half. None the less we powered through and learned some interesting things about Spain’s health care system. First, we took the metro to Basurto Hospital. There we were given a presentation on the differences of healthcare within the United States vs Spain. They also started to talk about the importance nursing and engineering within the healthcare system. Something interesting I took away from the presentation is that nurses have to take an exam to get into school. I really enjoyed being able to talk to the nurses about their experiences.

Then, we moved to the BioBizkaia Health Research and Institute where we either got a presentation on the importance of 3D printing or Virtual Reality with in the healthcare system . This was really interesting to me because they use 3D models that are customized to practice surgeries before actually performing them on the patient. I think this is a really smart way for surgeons to prepare for a surgery and not go in as blind.
