A day full of coffee and Salsa! Our next stop in our Costa Rica adventure was Cafe Britt. Britt is a coffee company that profits from the final steps in the coffee industry, roasting, packaging, marketing , and shipping. The company’s attracts a lot of attention from tourists, with a large majority of their profits coming from international tourists. The marketing strategy of the company is exceptional, their shops are not just selling products but are telling a story. It is an immersive experience, something in large demand for tourists. They provide immersive tours reeling, visitors, into Costa Rica’s culture. Then the actual gift shop is packed with free samples and discounts. Combined these strategies can convince even the most frugal person to buy their very expensive products. The business diversifies as well as coffee is not even their biggest selling point anymore. Britts chocolate is now the top selling item.
Britt relies on Costa Rican plantations to produce and process the beans, such as Doka the plantation we visited yesterday. Britt buys processed beans from plantations around the country to roast and then sell to consumers. As Britt business is in packaging and retail they have a distinct strategy with the planning stage of their business. They build their business model around their target, tourists, ensuring maximum engagement to increase spending. Currently Britt is planning for the future attempting to secure the entire supply chain and expand their markets. Britt is buying plantations to increase reliability, quality assurance, and branding. Expanding markets will allow the business to grow. Store placement is another decisive factor for their success, they place their stores in high tourist locations, airports, hotels, and tour sites to attract their costumer basis. Their approach to business is very clever and clearly very effective. The only thing I can think of to improve upon is more global reach. To expand their business they have to look more outside of Costa Rica. The ants were coming from the wall. My suitcase are done publishing right now.
