This morning we visited the head office of Vasso Eliades in Nicosia which is Cyprus’ largest import and trading company. I learned so much about supply chain management and how this large distribution company combines technology with logicstics during the presentations and tour. Something that was especially interesting to me is how they represent Nestlé. Nestlé has such a wide variety of brands attached to them and an extensive market for all the products in Cyprus and the world. I personally loved how Vasso Eliades mission was so well focused on sustainability and CSR. Specifically, the Nespresso capsule recycle program intrigued me the most. That is such an amazing idea that reduces and recycles the aluminum waste from the Nespresso capsules so well. I had an overall great experience visiting Vasso Eliades!

After an filling lunch, this afternoon we had the opportunity to listen to a “History of Cyprus” presentation from Dr. Solomou at the University of Nicosia. From knowing very little history coming into this trip, I have gained so much knowledge on important events that make Cyprus so special. It was exciting to listen to a lecture from a professor in another country because the lecture style was different from what I am used to at Pitt. For example, the format of the presentation was very different. I noticed Dr. Solomou had very little words on his slides because he didn’t need to read anything off of them since he knew it all in his head. I notice in the USA, people tend to put a lot of information on slides. I would be interested in hearing more lectures to compare as well! Dr. Solomou was very knowledgable and it was especially interesting to hear his information on the invasion from Turkey because he lived through it. Today was very educational in many ways!
