Day 3

Fredit(hy), TK Elevator, and K-BBQ

We start up again today a little later at 830 and board our charter bus routed for Fredit Co at 8:45. After some minor navigational challenges we find ourselves on Fredit’s yogurt drink factory for a tour.

Fredit is a yogurt production company that was founded in 1969 to bring the yogurt drinks popular in Japan to Korea. They began selling in 1971 and were the first company to bring these yogurt drinks to Korea. The actual prebiotics in the drink were imported until 1995 when the company began to be entirely independent even making the bottles on site. The yogurt itself goes through a precise 20 day fermentation process before it is bottled into the iconic 65ml bottles. For 56 years Fredit’s classic yogurt ladies have been selling their drinks and products to the Korean population. Surprisingly, in Korea the yogurt ladies actually sell more product on average than markets! They use mobile electric refrigerator carts that can be driven around and are also made by Fredit. Although Fredit is primarily a yougurt company it also offers a home delivery service. During the tour we got to see the actual fermentation tanks, the bottling process, and even walk-through a giant stomach and fight bacteria as a prebiotic in VR. Overall it was such a fun tour complete with some free swag as well!

After some lunch we had our final stop at TK Elevator the number 2 elevator manufacturer and installer in Korea. This by far was the most fun company tour so far. We were able to use the employees rest and fun areas which included ping pong, a g, and a golf simulator. We then headed downstairs in orange vests to tour the manufacturing facilities. We were given short presentations on each part that goes into making and developing an elevator. From the assembly of the door to the tour they test new parts and technologies we were able to see it all. A particular highlight was the safety testing where we were dropped into a foam pit and jolted down on the harnesses they use to install the elevators.

After a long bus ride back to the hotel I was ready for a bit of dinner with relaxation. I was able to go to some delicious K-BBQ for dinner which was delicious.

I’m now absolutely exhausted and tucking in for bed signing off until next time!
