Espresso Yourself Before You Bachata Wreck Yourself

I think there are a couple of reasons why people spend a lot of money at Café Britt’s shop. For instance, Costa Rica is known for its high-quality coffee, so people want to try it for themselves and experience that aspect of its culture. Additionally, on the Britt tour, tourists hear all about how much care and hard work go into making the coffee and how high the quality is. They want to be able to support the company and take a piece of the tour home with them.

While Doka takes care of the farming and growing the coffee plants and beans, Café Britt takes care of the next steps in the process. They work to separate the coffee beans from the berries and then roast them to different flavors and darkness levels. They import coffee berries from 800 different farms across various regions, allowing them to produce a wide range of aromas and flavors. Café Britt is also responsible for then exporting the goods to eleven countries around the world.

One of the main reasons Café Britt continues to succeed financially is its ability to maintain high quality throughout the roasting and shipping process. For their packaging materials, they source a mixture of materials, with the main ones being aluminum and plastic. The structure of the packaging includes a plastic valve that allows the coffee beans to release carbon dioxide but not take in any oxygen. This preserves the freshness, taste, and aromas of the beans, making them last longer for the customer.

While I understand that this approach is easier for the sourcing aspect and allows for a highly profitable outcome, it is not environmentally sustainable. Since the current materials of the bag are necessary and shouldn’t be changed even to lower the carbon footprint, one change I would suggest is finding a way to recycle/reuse the bags. For example, customers who return or mail back their used bags could receive a discount on their next coffee order. Additionally, the company could invest in research to find ways to break down and recycle the used packaging materials for reuse, either in coffee production or for other purposes.
