Learning About Yogurt and Elevators (Day 3)

Today was day three and once again we had breakfast at the hotel. We had two different company visits today so we had to fuel up and get ready to stay engaged. The first stop was HY/Fredit company which was almost an hour bus ride away. We learned all about the process to produce the yakult drinks. They are very serious about cleaning everything from the workers to the bottles. I was surprised to learn that they only have about 100 workers in their entire building because of how many parts of the process have been taken over by machines. At the end of the tour we were given these cute tote bags which contained some probiotic drinks and powder. We were also given a cute little towel and postcards. I will be sending those to friends back home. For lunch we went to a soup place. I got the tofu only with some side dishes, which I wasn’t a huge fan of, but it was still overall pretty good. Then Dr. Yun treated us all to an ice cream/dessert from the convenience store down the street.

The next company was TK Elevators. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it but it was very entertaining in the end. The first thing they showed us was the destress zones where we played ping pong, golf simulator, and billiards. After that, we split into two groups with my group going to the safety demonstrations. We were able to free fall into a pit of foam squares or drop while in a harness. I chose the free fall and honestly, I was nervous at first, but I did it and it was actually fun. Next, we switched with the other group and were able to walk around the factory and see the employees working on the production. We learned about each major step and even went to the testing tower. We went up 40 stories in a very very fast and smooth elevator and were able to see the view. This was super interesting to me because I think elevators are fascinating. After we met with the other group and took a bunch more group pictures, we headed back to the hotel. For dinner a small group decided to get Korean barbeque which was an experience for sure. It took us a bit to figure out the right way to get situated, but with the help of common sense and the waitress, we were able to stuff ourselves to the brim. We still had time and space to get strawberry and creme brulee pancake deserts.
