Day 3 in Bilbao

Today was another exciting day exploring Spain. Our morning was packed with insightful presentations on groundbreaking work in biomedical research. One presentation was by Dr. Saioa Herrero on advancements in stroke rehabilitation, using sensor based technology to track a patient’s balance and stability in real time. As a nursing major, it was interesting to learn about new concepts like the center of pressure and the center of mass. Visualizing this was something I had never considered before, but it made perfect sense in the context of improving mobility. The second presentation was by Dr. Harvey Borovetz about the development of a heart device designed specifically for young children with heart conditions. Learning about the long process it takes for engineers to partner with companies and get approval for production really opened my eyes to the challenges engineers face beyond just building something that works.

In the afternoon, we switched gears and visited the Guggenheim Museum. We took the scenic route, and saw a peacock on the way. The museum building was a masterpiece, and I really enjoyed the interactive exhibits. My favorite exhibit was an immersive digital art room with a beautiful evolving landscape that felt like stepping into a computer. I ended the day getting dinner with friends: vegetable paella and chocolate gelato.
