Day 4 started off with a trip around La Boca, with a guided tour telling us about the history of the town. On our way to La Boca, our tour guide showed us the Pink House, in which the president works in, the stadium for soccer, many murals that have beautiful meanings behind them, and so much more! While we walked through La Boca, it was very bright and colorful as well as cultural. We had some free time to walk around the town and shop. Soon after, we had our next tour in San Telmo where we visited the church and the market. After we took a tour to look at the graffiti done in Pomelo.
Similarities and Differences between the US and Argentina:
The United States and Argentina share both similarities and differences. They both gained independence around the same time, both in July of 1700/1800s as well as both running a democracy. Both countries gained many immigrants, yet Argentina was not prepared for the amount of immigrants that they received, while the US was more prepared to receive immigrants from many different regions. La Boca was shaped by this movement as they did not have enough houses so many homes were built up from wood, covered by tin, and painted over with colorful paints. Many families shared homes due to the large number of immigrants. While both countries were shaped by immigration, the U.S has had more ethnic diversity and long-term planning while Argentina’s response was more improvised and regional. Between Argentina and the US, both have cultural landmarks such as murals and graffiti yet differ in what these landmarks represent. As we toured through La Boca, it showed that Argentina displays their culture through cities like La Boca as well as things like murals, buildings, and music. Argentina represents their culture through their structures alongside their community and their history of immigrants, especially in neighborhoods like La Boca and Palermo. On the other hand, the United States shows culture through structures such as the Statue of Liberty representing more of the country’s values like freedom and independence.
