Hyundai to Han (Day 4)

Unfortunately today was a very early start at 6:50. At first I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through the day because of how exhausted I felt, but once we got to our destination I felt so much better. On the bus we were given breakfast and it was amazing. The sauce on the sandwich was delicious and the mochi with red bean was scrumptious.

Once we got to the Hyundai Asan Factory, we were escorted to watch a promotional video and try sitting in some of the show cars. The tour guide showed us around the different parts of the assembly line. The first part was the press shop which was the first step to creating a car. They would use rolls of sheet metal and cut out the shapes needed. The next part was the welding ship which was surprisingly 100% automated. We weren’t able to go to the paint shop because of the fumes and chemicals but they told us that it took 11 out of the 20 hours to create a car. The last part was assembly where the majority of the steps were done by human hands. This is where the smaller parts are put together like the seats, lights, or bolts. Impressively they make one car every 53 seconds. So for a whole day they make 100,100 cars. This has to be my favorite place so far because I enjoy cars and would love to work in the automotive industry.

After our tour, we stopped at a rest stop, and I tried honey hotteok which was super sweet. This was just a small snack before getting lunch by the Han River. We were given beef bento boxes for lunch and once again was a life changer. The food here is amazing and healthy, also I love how there is rice with almost every meal. After lunch we sat around, got some ice cream, and some of us played hacky sack. On the cruise we had the opportunity to buy fish chips to feed the seagulls from our hands. I didn’t participate but it was funny to watch. I was also preoccupied worrying that a bird was going to poop on me. Eventually a few of us went to the lower deck to listen to some live music. A girl was singing and playing piano in English, French, or Korean. She was very talented and made the cruise even better. Overall, today was the most interesting for me and I can’t wait to learn more.
