D3: Nuremburg & MAN

Today was the first day of our company visits and headed to Nuremburg to visit MAN. We left pretty early as it was a decent drive and arrived in the city around 10 AM. We were first given a tour of the city center which I loved. I was not sure what it would be like because we were told how much of the city was destroyed during the war, but I thought they did an amazing job restoring it. Our tour guide was amazing and I loved walking around the castle as medieval history is something that fascinates me, I was particularly interested by the story about the outer wall they built in defense from the Ottomans. Overall, the city felt very modern around the center but I thought transitioned smoothly and was not drastic.

After an amazing authentic Bavarian lunch we headed to MAN which was around ten minutes away. I knew from our presentation from the other day they manufactured busses and trucks as the main developer of the greater Volkswagen Group, but I was really surprised by the visit. We learnt that they manufactured specifically engines for the vehicles focusing more on trucks with busses as well and some aquatic ones. It was really unique how they utilized a combination of robots and humans throughout the assembly and how they built upon each others strengths to optimize the production. After the tour I was exhausted and we headed back to Augsburg, but I am excited to talk to the MAN representative Friday to learn more!
