Today, we started our day at the Bilbao School of Engineering, where we learned about the innovative Oreka Balance Project, a new technology focused on rehabilitation in the balance aspect. It is a platform that move laterally and anterior to posterior. An example of it use is in stroke patients, for assisting in recovering their balance after they suffer their stroke. Then, Dr. Borovitz gave a fantastic presentation about the University of Pittsburgh. He spoke passionately about a heart design machine he’s currently developing, which has already gained attention from The New York Times. It was incredible to see the global impact of research being done at Pitt and to witness one of our own sharing that work abroad.

In the afternoon, we visited the iconic Guggenheim Museum, appreciating its distinctive architecture and the blend of modern and contemporary art. After that, fellow students and I wandered through the streets of Casco Viejo, the old town of Bilbao. The narrow alleys, colorful buildings, and lively atmosphere provided us with a glimpse of the city’s rich history and culture. The more time I spend in the town, the more I can appreciate it. This global experience is the perfect balance of academic inspiration and cultural immersion. The knowledge I’m gaining inside and outside of the classroom is so valuable!
