Today was an early start, as we took public transportation pretty far for the first portion of the day. I am still in awe of just how useful and well-organized public transportation is. In the Pittsburgh area, it is near impossible to get this far without a car.
We began by visiting a rehabilitation hospital, which was on the coast. It looked like it was out of a movie, and I think it’s definitely better than a hospital in the middle of the city for the patients. The beach gives the place a hopeful mood, which is also shown by all the innovation in the hospital. There are so many cool medical advancements happening here, including the invention for stroke patients, that I mentioned yesterday by Dr. Herrera. Seeing this engineering process and actual product was impactful for me as a future engineer. It shows that your hard work can one day pay off, after that many years of work. We also saw new processes for patients, including video game based therapies with a walking machine.
After a traditional Spanish lunch, and taking the metro back, it was soon time to go to the oprah. This experience exceeded my expectations, in almost every way. The building was beautiful, and the music was amazing. which I really appreciated because I play piano at home. Music is such a universal experience.
