Ancient Ruins and a Mediterranean Miami

Following our departure from Nicosia this morning, we took a visit to Kourion, and honestly, it was mind-blowing. The ancient city sits right on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean—like, you can hear the waves crashing while standing in ruins that are thousands of years old. The theater there was originally a full circle, but over time, due to continuous massive earthquakes, it has been reshaped into the half-moon we see today. Even so, you can still picture the crowds and performances. What really stuck with me were the mosaics—so many different patterns, each telling a story or symbolizing something important. Walking around the site, it was crazy how much of the original city layout is still visible. It really felt like stepping back in time.

Later in Limassol, I couldn’t help but get South Beach vibes—bright, breezy, and way more relaxed than Nicosia. After lunch we stopped at the Limassol Castle. I kept thinking how wild it is that this thing was built with an actual basement, despite being so close to the sea. Inside, it’s full of character—high vaulted ceilings, super low arched doorways, and all these little nooks and crannies that make you want to explore every cort. While exploring the castle, it was really interesting to learn about how the Ottomans rebuilt it and even turned the basement into prison cells. The castle is a mix of beauty and history that somehow still feels alive.
