After breakfast this morning we went on our way to the 4th site visit: Glass Egg. Glass egg is a video game production company that focuses on making and designing characters, vehicles, places, etc in your favorite video games. They have worked on very well known games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Need for Speed. In addition, they have been partnered with Forza since the creation of the franchise, designing many vehicles that appear in the game. One thing that this long partnership with Forza displays is their loyalty and progressing the industry. This goes along with their motto, making games better, together.
I think that this motto and commitment to better games has set them apart in this competitive industry, making them one of the top and most trusted gaming developers. Another aspect of the presentation that stood out to me was the conversation surrounding AI. I think that this is a challenging topic to talk about and it poses as a potential threat to integrity in the game developing industry. AI image generation is only going to get better over time, and in the future these companies will have to make challenging decisions relating to the topic. Glass Egg has decided that they will not replace any human workers with AI generation because they believe in the integrity, honesty, and artistic craft that their employees have. I think that this also supports their commitment to making better games together, and I admire their appreciation for their artists.
Something else that showed their appreciation to their employees was their annual blue jacket award for the employees that contribute the most to the company. The bonuses that the employee gets, and the ceremony, are a really special tradition that makes working at Glass Egg a fulfilling career. As well as the ceremony, their office space is very comfortable and employee friendly. There is a gym with an amazing view, as well as a pool table and free yoga classes for employees to use after the work day, which is really awesome.
After our visit we went to lunch for pizza and wings. There, me and a few friend reminisced on the fond memories we had of taking the calc 2 final, and doing our chem lab reports. Then, we got back on the bus and we were in our way back to UEF for language and culture class. Today was especially fun, because we played traditional Vietnamese games. My favorite game was one where you bounce a ball and you have to pick up chopsticks while it was still in the air. The other game that we played was a gambling game where you place your bets of coffee candy on tiles of a board, and then you roll three dice. The dice have corresponding characters as the board, and if you selected correctly you would earn however much you bet on the tile. We had a good time playing with the UEF students.
I can’t believe we have already been is HCMC for 5 days now. My favorite memory so far from the first week has to be walking around the markets, looking at the various goods, and getting the delicious fruit that they were selling.
