The day started early packing up to leave the hotel. Heading to Kourion, the group was able to get some well needed rest on the bus as we traveled down the coast. With a breathtaking view of the coast, the site contains a collection of ruins from the ancient city of Kourion. One historical fact that I found particularly interesting was that the city used to host gladiator tournaments, which I would not have thought would be a practice that reached Cyprus from the Roman Empire.
After our visit to Kourion, the group hopped on the bus to Limassol, where we went on a tour of the old city and grabbed some delicious lunch along the water. After lunch, the group headed to Limassol Castle, an ancient structure that had been preserved and and converted into a musuem. A historical fact about the castle that I found particularly interesting was that Venitian and Frank royal families (non-local europeans) had majority control over the island during this time, rather than local Cypriots.
