Day 6 (Yonsei University)

Today we visited Yonsei University. We got to sleep in again, which was good. We were supposed to depart from the hotel at 9:20 but there were delays. We eventually left the hotel and used a combination of the subway and buses to get to Yonsei University.

When we finally arrived on Yonsei University campus it was raining so we immediately took shelter in the University’s cafeteria. This was around lunch time, so we stopped to eat food. I got crispy shrimp and rice. I also got chicken with a sweet and sour sauce. The food was a lot better than I would expect for any cafeteria.

After eating lunch, we started our tour of Yonsei University. The campus was very different from our campus at Pitt. There was a lot more green and vegetation on Yonsei University’s campus. The tour took us to a statue of Horace Grant Underwood, who is the founder of Yonsei University. The statue is surrounded by bushes that from a Birdseye view resemble the British flag. These bushes pay respect to Underwoods British heritage.

We then continued the tour by viewing the engineering research building. It was interesting seeing all the different equipment that is used at this research building. Then this part of the tour concluded we were given an hour of free time to rest before the next part of the tour started. I decided to get some ice cream that was placed in between two waffles. This ice cream was good and cheap.

We then started the final part of the tour where we were able to watch students do research on Alzheimer’s using rats brain samples. While this was also going on we had the opportunity to talk to Korean students about there experiences going to school at Yonsei University. After this part of the tour we left Yonsei University and went to an Outback Steakhouse. The Outback tasted great and then we left for the hotel.
