Goodbye Nicosia, Hello Limassol!

This morning we said goodbye to Nicosia after an amazing few days. It was such a bittersweet experience, but our first destination in Limassol did not disappoint. Before we settled in, we visited Kourion, founded by the Argives (the inhabitants of ancient Argos in the Peloponnese) and it was truly beautiful. Every time I think Cyprus can’t get any better, it always does! My absolute favorite part was the Kourion Ancient Amphitheater. The idea of the theater echoing your voice when you are standing at the bottom was so cool to me, so of course I had to try it out for myself. Being able to hear the echo of my voice was so surprising – I can only imagine how awesome the concerts are that take place here! Not only that, but the view of the water from the Amphitheater was the cherry on top of its natural beauty already. Being able to witness such an amazing place, that was built all the way back in the 2nd century BC, with my own eyes is something I’ll never forget! I think Kourion is definitely one of my favorites places I have seen so far, and I know it will only get better from here!

After we finished exploring Kourion and its beauty, we made it to our final destination – Limassol. It is just as gorgeous as I thought it was going to be. When we arrived, we were able to go out to lunch on the water and really soak in the beauty of where we were. After that, we explored the town and shops a little bit before entering the Limassol Castle, originally constructed during the Byzantine era. I have seen a few castles before, but none of them were quite like this one. This castle was so ancient and so preserved. It had small individual rooms with ancient artifacts from Cypriot history which was so enticing to me because I had never seen something like this. There was even a preserved skeleton from the body of a Cypriot that was taken into custody when the Turkish were taking over. To me, this castle proudly represented the Cypriot history because of the way this castle did not seem to be modernized at all throughout the years. Another thing that I found amazing was the way this castle was so integrated into the community of Limassol and so welcoming to visitors. It really showed that this castle is a proud part of Limassol. There were three floors to this castle, and when we made it to the very top, we were welcomed with the amazing view of Limassol and the water. Being able to witness this view from such a powerful historical site was incredible. I have already fallen in love with Limassol and it has only been a couple of hours! While it was hard to leave Nicosia behind, the warm welcome in Limassol made it all worth it.
