Today, we took a day trip to Nuremberg, and it ended up being one of the most memorable days so far. The city had an incredible mix of old-world charm and deep history. We started with a walking tour that led us through the heart of the old town and eventually up to the castle. The view from the top was amazing. Rooftops, towers, and winding streets it was an awesome sight. I was especially struck by how well-preserved some of the older buildings were, especially those that weren’t destroyed during World War II.
For lunch, we stopped near the castle, and I ordered the Bratwurst Trilogy – three types of sausages served with sauerkraut and potato salad. It definitely felt like a must-try meal while in Germany, and it didn’t disappoint.
In the afternoon, we visited MAN Truck & Bus for a factory tour. Seeing engines being assembled in real time was a really cool look at large-scale manufacturing. What surprised me most was how hands-on the process still is. There were a lot more people on the line than I expected. Even though it’s a modern factory, it felt like a very coordinated team effort. Watching a new engine get finished every few minutes gave me a real appreciation for the scale and efficiency they operate at.
We ended the day back in Augsburg with dinner at a Thai restaurant (one of my favorites from back home), which was a nice break from the heavier German meals we’ve been having.
It was cool to experience both the historic and industrial sides of Germany in one day, and I’m looking forward to seeing more contrasts like this as the trip continues.
