After a long week, it was much needed to sleep in today! To begin the day, we took a trip to the opera house, where we got a full tour. While we were there before for a show, this tour better explained the space. The auditorium and stage area are actually on the second floor, the only type to do this in all of Europe, because of flooding from the river. It really is a beautiful piece of architecture.
The building itself is new, but it retained an old design. They had to rebuild it because of a flood relatively recently (I think around 20 years ago). For this reason, the building looks new, but retains an old feel. They still used their classic building plans, which makes it utilize an older style. In addition, we got to see multiple levels, with boxes in the theatre. We also saw pieces used in performances at the opera house.
After this, we got cafe con leche, essentially the Spanish version of a latte, and the most common coffee here. The main difference is the type of milk they use to make it. It is so much different from a classic drip coffee in america, yet it is so much cheaper somehow.
In free time, we took a hike up a nearby mountain. While we left too late to make it all the way up, we got to soak in a lot of beautiful views.
