Day 7: Munich

Today we got to go to the largest city in Bavaria: Munich! We took the train into the city, which was a slightly unenjoyable experience because we were all packed into the train like sardines, and there were no seats open. However, the train ride was so worth it. The first thing we did when we got there was take a tour of the city. We started off the tour by watching the Glockenspiel, which plays every day at 11. This shows some scenes of Munich’s history through a short mechanical show. It was very cool to be able to see this. As our tour went on, we saw many interesting things and learned a lot about the history of Munich. One thing that I loved seeing was the one church, St. Peter’s Cathedral. It was beautiful inside and had so much history surrounding it. After the tour was over, we got a couple of hours of free time to explore Munich on our own. We started off by eating lunch at the Hofbräuhaus. I got a large pretzel, which I had been dreaming of this whole trip. This place was so fun and immersive in German culture. After lunch, we shopped at a lot of souvenir shops and also regular shops. I loved walking the streets of Munich and seeing all of the culture and history that surrounds it. One thing I was surprised about is that there aren’t any tall buildings. This is because there is a law that buildings can’t be taller than the Church of Our Lady’s towers. This was such an interesting fact. We ended our day by getting dinner at a very good burger restaurant. I enjoyed being able to explore Munich and all of its history!
