European shopping is dangerous | Augsburg Day 7

Getting to Munich this morning was a bit of a struggle, as many people were unused to the German train system. We had to stand upright the entire 40 minute train ride, which is not good for someone like me, who can become motion-sick. We made it, however, and went on a walking tour through the city upon our arrival. The Glockenspiel was a sight to see, and even though I have been to Munich several times before, it was a completely different experience. I had never taken a tour of the city, so it was interesting to see places I had walked before in a new light.

We were given free time to explore the city after our tour, and a few of us took the opportunity to eat lunch at Hofbräuhaus before going shopping. The waiter was not thrilled with us Americans, and seemed extremely annoyed every time we asked him for something. However, the food was amazing and it was a cool experience to eat in the original brewery, where the Beer Hall Putsch was first discussed by Hitler and other Nazi leaders. We may have spent too much money after lunch, both on souvenirs and other items, but we had a great time. Some of us went to the top of the church tower for a better view of the city, and even though there were 306 steps to climb up a tiny staircase, the view was worth the effort. We ate at Hans im Glück for dinner, which was a blessing because I was able to find vegetarian food. I ate the same thing I had ordered in Heidelberg in the fall. Taking the train home was much smoother, and everyone found a seat, thankfully. I think this was one of the more relaxed days, but it was still a lot of fun.
