As the title of my post today reveals today was mostly about Eva “Evita” Peron and her work in Argentina before and during the presidency of Juan Peron. We started today with a work/review session where we discussed what we have learned so far on the trip and worked on our presentations for this coming Thursday. The weather has derailed a lot of plans the last few days so today was much lighter than the past few days.
This afternoon we had lunch and toured the Evita museum. The museum was honestly one of my favorite parts of the trip and covered the life and work of Evita. While the movie staring Madonna has made her a known name her work was far more interesting and important than the movie gives her justice for. Evita was a champion for change in Argentina and her work with women and children impacted thousands of lives across the nation. Evita was also a critical figure in the Argentine suffrage movement and was instrumental in securing the right for women to vote. Tragically she died of cancer at the age of 33 in 1952 and tomorrow when we tour the Recoleta cemetery we will get to see her tomb
