Today, our day started with a lesson from Dr. Novick to summarize and clarify what we have learned so far. He directs one of the biggest private sector hospitals, Swiss Medical. It was great to hear his perspective and get a holistic point of view on what we have heard from all of our lessons. We discussed how unions and private sector hospitals now compete under the new policies that Milei has enacted in Argentina. A common issue that Argentina struggles with in its healthcare system is its inability to turn away care, which protects the people but hurts the economy. For this reason, it is predicted that their healthcare system will shift to be more aligned with the United States’ healthcare system. Following the discussion, we had time to start working on our final projects.
Next, we went to the Museo Evita. At the museum, we had a delicious lunch funded by IES. We then received a tour of the museum, where we learned about the life of Evita Perón. She is known for her major advancements as First Lady of Argentina while her husband, Juan Perón, was president. Her major impacts include her foundation that helped the poor and her role in fighting for women’s suffrage. She was a strong woman who is a role model for many women around the world today. Today was a shorter day, and we got back to the hotel around four. To end the day, some of us walked around the city to look at local shops and businesses.
See you tomorrow!!
