Hanok Village and Live Squid (Day 7)

The weather was back to being warm and cloudy for most of the day which was perfect for our visit to Hanok Village. The houses had traditional Korean roofs that had patterned panels and curved edges. The view at the top of the hill was beautiful and worth the steep incline up to the top. I also bought chopsticks at one of the souvenir shops at the bottom of the hill.

After visiting the Hanok Village we went to a Buddhist temple where we learned that it was recently Budda’s birthday and there had been many celebrations. I got some cool photos of all the paper lanterns covering the roof and got to see where Buddhists come to pray.

Next, we went to lunch where I had Bibimbap which is fried rice with egg and it was definitely one of my favorite foods I have eaten in Korea. I also had a side of soup and shiitake mushrooms.

During our free time we visited Cheonggyecheon stream where I got to relax and see fish swimming in the water. This time to relax was necessary for our 40 minute walk to a nearby place to shop. On the way we stopped at a market where for the first time I tried chicken feet and live squid. Surprisingly the live squid was tasty when eaten with a sauce if you are able to pick it up while it’s moving. That will definitely be one of the most memorable parts of this trip. When we made it to our destination I tried milk flavored ice cream and spent some time walking around the shops until it started to rain.

Today was a day to remember from visiting the Hanok Village to eating live squid. I hope tomorrow is just as exciting when visiting the Namsan Tower.
