A change of pace from our usual go go go, was a nice break today. We first met with Dr. Gabriel Novick, a director for the largest private healthcare providers called Swiss Medical, who graciously took the time out of his Saturday morning to thoroughly go over the Argentina healthcare system from top to bottom. He briefly explained the history of how the healthcare system started in Argentina and how unions, private, and public insurance was created. We looked at graphs as he elaborated on how everything is structured and how it fits together. He took his time to make sure we all understood the system, challenges, and opportunities that their healthcare faces. At the end we took some time for questions and to start preparing for our final presentations.
After our meeting with Dr. Novick, IES treated us to a lovely lunch at the Museo Evita Restaurant. I enjoyed a delicious chicken and mushroom dish with a Catalan cream berries dessert. Lunch was followed up with a very interesting tour of the Evita museum. We learned all about the history of Evita and what made her such a beloved figure during her time. It was fascinating to hear about the part she played during the women’s suffrage movement and how her whole country began to hold her to such high esteem. This museum also showed artifacts and original clothing that Evita wore. Some of the pieces of clothing on display were not even allowed to be photographed because it was a private collection.
Although today was not jam packed with a bunch of activities, it was still a nice relaxing day. We got to catch up on some much needed sleep and were able to slow things down today. See you tomorrow!
