Perón & Healthcare

Juan Domingo Perón was one of if not the most influential presidents of Argentina and his policies and legacy is still discussed today in modern politics. His new and even revolutionary ideas have changed Argentina and have effected its healthcare system. Both him and his wife (Evita, mentioned in a previous blog post) made changes that effected healthcare.

One of the biggest things Perón did was greatly expand the government run part of healthcare within Argentina. He created many hospitals that are still running and are run by the government. Which some of those hospitals today are a major part of the public sector of the Argentinian healthcare system. These new hospitals and healthcare infrastructure made healthcare accessible and viable for many of those living in the country especially in the providence of Buenos Aires.

Another big thing Perón did was make healthcare at these public hospitals complete free for all people. This goes along with Perón’s political ideas of being a populist and doing work to help the workers and the working class (almost like our middle class). Perón’s wife also had some effects on the healthcare system in Argentina. Using her foundation the Eva Perón Foundation, hospitals and clinics were built and access to healthcare was increased. Overall Perón and also his wife had some major roles in shaping Argentina and its healthcare system today.
