Over the past two days, we have learned a lot about some of Perón’s policies, especially regarding healthcare. During his presidency, he did much to support the working class, including giving much power to unions. This allowed unions to provide health insurance to their members and increase accessibility.

He further increased accessibility by adding thousands of beds and working to reach more of the population. He and Evita did research on children’s health, as I mentioned in my blog post yesterday. Evita’s foundation hosted various sports tournaments throughout the country, with free medical wellness checks mandatory for participation. They also had daycare programs and provided age-appropriate, nutritious food for all of the children.
By building social programs that benefited the working class, more of the country got access to healthcare. This base built up the healthcare system as it is known today, giving power to the unions, which has unfolded into the way insurance works today. It is because of Perón and his wife, social programs were developed, and the working class felt heard.
