Coherent is a U.S.-based company that opened a factory in Vietnam in the late 1990s. They manufacture high-tech electronics used in products such as lasers, sensors, and communication systems. The company is well-known for staying ahead of the market by developing new technologies early and maintaining a strong focus on innovation.
One part of the tour that I found particularly significant was seeing the factory where they actually build various components for their systems. It was interesting to observe the hands-on manufacturing process and how each part contributes to the final product.
From what I saw, the work environment in Vietnam is quite similar to that in the United States. The employees work in a clean and organized setting, and the company even provides one free meal a day, which is a nice benefit.
Although tariffs definitely impact the company, I don’t believe they would consider relocating solely because of that. Vietnam offers very affordable labor, which helps offset some of the added costs. Overall, Coherent is a company that is thriving and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
