Day 8- Dachau

Today our travels came under much different circumstances. We toured the concertation camp at Dachau right outside of Munich. This was our only trip today as it carried some heavy topics with it. The Holocaust came as one of our histories most tragic time periods where many people living in Europe around Germany were killed by the likes of the Nazi party, many of them being Jewish. It is important to not forget these parts of history, so we don’t ever repeat the horrors of it again. Our visit showed off many parts of the camps from the museum, former war bunkers, housing areas, and cremation facilities. It was not easy to walk through this. I saw many of our group members tearing up due to the heavy nature of these camps and what occurred. Our guide did a phenomenal job of teaching and telling us about many aspects of the facility.  To me this camp represents a dark part in world history, maybe even the worst.

Unfair imprisonment during war times is common and it was completely unethical what the Germans did. From poor conditions of living, to killing, the concentration camp was a horrible place. The hardest part for me was walking past the gas chambers and areas that stored piles of dead bodies. Seeing pictures and reading about them was just so sad. While nobody wants to visit and go to these places because of what occurred there, I think it is something everyone should visit as to see what not to do. I included a picture I took at the camp as my photo.
