Day 8 in Bilbao

After a weekend away from the hotel breakfast, it was nice to finally have it again! Today started off with touring Bilbao School of Engineering Labs, which were very interesting to see. There is a lot of technology involving medical devices, and we got to see the next advancement in Dr. Herrero’s work. This is similar to the machine from last time, however it features two different platforms, similar to an elliptical, which simulate the patient walking. We learned more about the pressure sensors, as well as how the device actually works. We also toured other labs and got to see what they were working on. We saw a very fast robotic arm, as well as a lot of heavy machinery. This all involved electrical engineering in some capacity, so it was encouraging for me to see a lot of areas with use for this degree. In one of the scanners for the body, there was even artificial intelligence involved.

For the second half of the day, we went to the hanging bridge. This bridge is unlike any I’ve ever seen, as it is 60 meters high. It goes across a very wide body of water, which becomes that way because of the nearby Atlantic Ocean. There is a place to walk across on top, which we did, as well as a gondola going back and forth suspended from the bridge. It was very windy on top, but well worth seeing.
