Day 9- Hoerbiger and Oberammergau

Today we started off with a company visit to Hoerbiger. This company visit was a very interesting look at a parts manufacturer for many of the top automobile companies across the world. Hoerbiger works with car companies to create parts for transmissions, valves, pipelines, and many small parts that goes into cars. Seeing the factory was amazing as the levels of automation were on par with the other companies we visited. Our first stop was at a smaller facility with workers working on small components for pressurization equipment. It was cool to see the supply chain aspects when stepping into a lab. It is smaller and only a very fine scale. We saw a bigger facility with many large machines that created components for their car parts. Many different pieces of machinery helped create one final part. The lectures after lunch included great aspects that helped enrich their supply chain alongside main industry topics and what their company is doing. From what I gathered, Hoerbiger is in trouble because a lot of their parts go to manual cars and in a world of electric vehicles, that won’t slide. They do have plans for electric cars but that still needs to pan out.

Next, we did in what my opinion has been my favorite thing so far. We took a bus to Oberammergau and went up the mountain to see the alps. The views were amazing and the crisp air up top felt so good. I took a hike on my own and found an amazing spot to chill out at. We then went into the town and saw some amazing shops with many handmade goods. This is where I made some purchases for those at home. I chose a picture with the local Augsburg student, Joni at the top of the mountain.
