Day 9 Presentation Day

Today, we woke up and went to Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College. The Vice Principal, Tom Williams, gave us a tour of the school. The place prioritized security and had the place secure. He told me that the school’s goal is to prioritize student growth and improvement. It was apparent when sitting in the classroom. We learned the ins and outs of what a UK college is like.

Our next stop was the Botanical Gardens. The place was gorgeous with vibrant colors and an array of flowers. We explored the place together and took many pictures. I was the group photographer for the girls. After getting a feel for the garden grounds, we spent the rest of our time preparing for our presentations at 4 PM.

Whenever the time rolled around, I was sweating and shaking with nerves. First, I had to sit through the others’ presentation on refugee access and quality of healthcare and education. Back in my second semester for Intro to Diversion, Equity, and Inclusion, I did a project on refugees in healthcare, so it was interesting to compare my knowledge to what they had to say. Now it was time for our presentation. I was so nervous; I was gripping my note cards tight. During my parts, I started shaking uncontrollably, but I presented better than the first time before the trip. Public speaking is not my thing.

After our group went, it inspired a lot of conversations among the viewers, so I was glad to see that our presentation had that effect on everyone. My favorite part was how encouraging my peers were with me; as soon as I was walking back everyone said I did so good and gave first bumps. The presentation after was on wealth and how that plays a role in quality of healthcare. Most of the information was stuff I already knew, but none the less it was interesting. It was so relieving to be done.
